What should be shared are the lasting impacts on families and survivors — those who carry the weight of trauma long after the headlines fade. While the news cycle moves on in days, those affected live with the scars for the rest of their lives. Sharing violent images only desensitizes us, especially our young people, making it harder to recognize the urgency of solving this crisis. We must do better.
While we work toward long-term solutions that prevent these events from ever starting, we also bear a responsibility in the present: to be prepared. Preparation saves lives.
