We recently had the Defend Systems team conduct a walk through of our church facility followed by a training session. Prior, Gloria and Adam asked about our current safety and security measures. Using this information, they provided specific recommendations to implement to make our facility a safer place. During the training, Gloria and Adam presented data from several school and event shootings, which provided us realistic insight into how quickly situations escalate and how we need to be ready to respond. The trauma medical response portion of the training included a hands-on session for addressing various types of wounds. Based on the participant feedback, the training had a significant impact on those attending and made them more aware of the importance of protecting our church flock. There are a lot of companies out there that provide training for church safety teams, and many are very good at what they do, but Defend Systems is in a league of their own. While the experience they bring to the table is impressive enough, what struck me is their continued pursuit of research to guide their training. They're not just hitting 'copy and paste' on the tactical training they used in their previous careers. They're getting as much raw data as possible from past and recent events, as well as keeping up on current intelligence, to constantly improve their training to best prevent, mitigate, and respond to threats in today's environment.
Additionally, the training is comprehensive. There's always more to learn and it's definitely worth participating in regular trainings quarterly, annually, etc. However, in just the first training I received, I learned the necessary skills to assemble an effective team, deter attacks on our congregation, respond to range of threats, and address life-threatening injuries until help arrives. They know their stuff, have a heart to teach, and will equip you to competently protect your flock.
