The biggest barrier when you’re thinking about training for faculty is making a decision on return on investment. What I would say as a Head of School is that these are some of the best dollars we have ever spent in terms of professional development for our faculty and staff.
Our employees were not prepared and did not have an understanding of how they should respond in that event. That is ultimately why we partner with Defend Systems. It’s an expertise beyond what our staff could provide, and I trust that God forbid we have an event happen on campus, our ability to respond will be lightyears ahead of where we would have been.

You can’t control what someone else is going to do, but you can control the knowledge that you have to combat that, and to make sure that you stay alive.
I have been a nurse for over a decade. I've received all kinds of medical training and worked in all kinds of different settings, but the trauma and medical first responder training that we received in this program was incredible, and really taught not just me but all of my co-workers who don't have a medical background that any of us can be a first responder in an emergency situation.
I thought I had seen it all. I’ve been in this world for a long, long time, and we’ve had a lot of training. I had no idea of how little I knew about our ability to respond, about my own personal ability to respond. There was trepidation about bringing this type of training to campus… but I’d say that it has been the best training that we’ve had. It’s important in the world we live in today.
